There are some stories that you can never forget, and there are some movies that you can always watch over and over again. To me, “Pride and Prejudice” in 2005 is the movie that I watch repeatedly. Not just the casting, but also the intriguing stories and conversations attract me. Moreover, another thing that I love about this movie is the beautiful music that perfectly matches every scene. Especially the first track of the Pride and Prejudice Soundtrack “Dawn”.
總是有些故事我們不會遺忘，也總是有些電影我們願意一看再看，對我而言，2005 年上映的 “傲慢與偏見” 便是這麼一部讓我百看不厭的電影。除了選角都是我個人偏愛的演員，劇情中詼諧生動的情節跟對話也讓人回味無窮，除此之外，便是那優美的配樂了。今天想跟你們分享傲慢與偏見原聲帶的第一首曲目 “Dawn”。
Dawn
When the movie starts, Lizzy is walking in the countryside. She is reading, and there is cleverness and smartness in her eyes. There are greenery surroundings. And the shimmering sunlight with the dews from the day makes the scene clean and transparent. It is dawn.
電影一開始，Lizzy 出場走在鄉間，津津有味讀著一本書。她的身後綠意盎然，她的眼神聰慧靈巧。微微的陽光映照著早晨的露水，整個畫面澄淨透明，是黎明時分。
The beginning of the day, the start of a relationship
When the music starts, the entrance sound of the piano is like the clear dew in the morning. It drops on the leaves, on the grass, and in the air. You can smell the fresh air and feel the morning breeze. The music slowly and carefully comes out, and rises and resonates in the air. Just like Lizzy’s first appearance in the movie, everything is slow and elegant.
Then there is the melody of the entrance again. But it sounds different this time. It’s slightly quicker and deeper, like it finds something interesting.
And the left hand starts to play the melody with the right hand on the piano. The main theme, always played by the right hand itself, is now followed by another. The music is now like two people talking: one is clever, and another one is deep and steady.
Then the range becomes wider, and the melody combines the notes of high and low. The notes keep dropping down, like a huge rain in the countryside.
After the rain, the melody gradually becomes slow. The high notes and low notes start to follow and correspond to each other. There is distance between them, and the correspondence sometimes separates and they collide again. Finally, they all merge into one tone in the end. The last four warm notes sound like the ending, and also the beginning.
片頭由鋼琴揭開序幕，清澈的琴音彷彿晶瑩的露珠，優雅且透明的落在鄉間的綠葉上、草地上、跟空氣中。在高音譜記號上的音樂帶我們來到英國的鄉間，這一切寧靜平和，在鋼琴的帶領下，似乎可以聞到鄉間新鮮的空氣，感受到沁涼的微風。琴音小心翼翼的流瀉，緩慢上升然後在空氣中迴盪，如此透明的氛圍下，是女主角Lizzy的初登場，她捧著一本書，從容優雅，眼神慧黠，臉上淺淺的笑容，對新的一天充滿期待。
琴音沒有停歇，跟開始的旋律相同，只是稍稍變快，就像是發現了什麼有趣的事物，琴音接二連三的串起旋律，此時加入了偶爾出現的低音，這個低音彷彿是另一個人的步伐，讓原本一直在高音譜躍動的音樂現在有了低音的旋律跟隨，音樂彷彿是兩個人的追逐跟對話，一個人聰慧迅速，另一個則沈穩低沈。
接著音域變得寬廣，旋律結合了高音跟低音的跳動，音符不停落下，彷彿一場鄉間的大雨。
大雨過後，旋律逐漸恢復緩慢，高音與低音互相追隨也互相對應，和諧中有著距離，兩者相互附和也依然若即若離，但是旋律最後合而為一，在四個溫暖的音符下，這彷彿是結尾，也彷彿是另一首曲子的開端。
This Dawn of Dario Marianelli, is the beginning of the day. It not only describes the refreshing start of the movie, but also the interesting and intriguing romance of Lizzy and Mr. Darcy.
Lizzy and Mr. Darcy have totally different backgrounds. One is a rich man with pride, and another one is a candid lady with prejudice towards richness. Lizzy doesn’t want to marry a toff by arrangement, and she holds unforgiveness towards Mr. Darcy due to misunderstanding. Lizzy is frank and passionate, while Mr. Darcy is reserved and restrained. These two people who seem like they can never be together have different social status and personalities. In the thunder rain one day, after Mr. Darcy confessed to Lizzy, Lizzy frankly told him that she would never marry him with anger.
However, Mr. Darcy is not as arrogant as Lizzy imagines, and Lizzy also finds out that Mr. Darcy has been helping her family privately. Lizzy is always straightforward and faces the difficulties directly. She cares about her family and friends. She is surprised to know that Mr. Darcy is the same as her. Mr. Darcy helps his friends and sister quietly, and never asks for return even when paying out a great amount of money. Lizzy and Mr. Darcy slowly become closer, and their interaction also moves the movie forward. Gradually, we noticed the similarity of these two young people, with their lives becoming closer each day.
In the end, Lizzy admits her feelings to Mr. Darcy. They meet each other on the way to their walk at dawn. This time, unlike the meeting in the rain, everything is peaceful and clear. Lizzy and Mr. Darcy make the promise to have their lives together. The dawn of this day is the beginning of the day, and the start of a new romance.
整首 Dawn 在 Dario Marianelli 的作曲下，是一天的清晨，不僅表現了電影清新的開場，也訴說了 Lizzy 跟 Mr. Darcy 這一段有趣又糾結的戀情。
男女主角背景不同，一位是高傲的富家公子，另一位是對富家子弟抱有偏見的女子。女主角 Lizzy不甘被安排嫁給沒有感情基礎的公子哥，又因為偏見跟誤會造成對男主角 Mr. Darcy 的不諒解。 Lizzy 率真熱情，Mr. Darcy 內斂含蓄，這兩位看似永遠不會達到共識的男女主角，除了社會地位不同，個性也迥異，在一場雷雨中，當 Mr. Darcy 對 Lizzy 表白後， Lizy 更是氣憤表明永遠不會嫁給他。
但是出乎意料的， Mr. Darcy 並非 Lizzy 以為的傲慢，Lizzy 也發現 Mr. Darcy 對她家人的默默關心與幫助。Lizzy 直率且總是正面面對困境，她關心家人與朋友，殊不知 Mr. Darcy 同樣對身邊的人默默幫助，即使付出大筆錢財也不願人知。兩人隱隱約的互動推動了劇情，於是，我們發現，這一對男女主角漸漸有了相似，兩人的生活也因此逐漸有了交集。
最後 Lizzy 終於面對並承認自己對 Mr. Darcy 的感情，兩個人不約而同的在清晨散步時相遇，許下承諾。這次的清晨，是一個新的開始，也是一段新戀情的展開。
The Dawn of Dario Marianelli describes the early morning, and also this lovely and unforgettable love. Performed by French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, the music is elegant and clear, with the light and tender romantic air added in the beautiful British countryside. The music starts with Lizzy’s independence and confidence with herself, and then the thunder rains of the two people, then turning around becomes a happy ending, at the same time, the beginning of a romance.
No matter if you have seen the Pride and Prejudice movie or not, this two minute music of Dawn has presented the most beautiful scene of the movie.
Dario Marianelli 的 Dawn 描寫了清晨，也描寫了這一段膾炙人口又美好可愛的戀情，加上法國鋼琴家Jean-Yves Thibaudet 的演奏，旋律清麗澄淨，為美麗的英國鄉村增添了輕盈的浪漫。音樂從 Lizzy 一個人的獨立自信，到兩個人爭執的狂風暴雨，峰迴路轉最後是一個幸福的結尾，也是一段戀情的開始。
不知道你是否看過傲慢與偏見這部電影，不過 Dawn 這首兩分多鐘的曲子，已經為整部電影下了最美麗的註解。
