How do you like seafood? Fish, shrimp and scallop? As you know I love good food, and seafood has always been my favorite. Therefore, when I found out about the Coast, I have been looking forward to dining in very much. Despite its full house every night, I got the reservation by waiting in front of the laptop at midnight.
I am not the kind of person who would spend a lot of time studying about the restaurant and reading the reviews before dining in. I like to save some surprises and curiosity, and to experience myself. So before getting the reservation, I had only a quick view of the Coast website. Like the name Coast, they pick and serve the best coastal cuisine. And with the Thai background of the chef, things seem to be in Thai style. So once I got the reservation, I was really excited about dining in Coast.
已經許久沒有分享美食了，隨著台灣有越來越多的 Fine Dining，讓享受美食的同時，五官有都了更豐富且獨特的體驗。台北的 Coast 就是這麼一間餐廳，室內小而精緻，大約只有五桌的空間，每晚都是滿座，我也是一個月前的午夜守在電腦前才訂到座位。
我平時並不習慣在用餐之前花太多時間研究餐廳跟菜色，或是讀網上的評論，我喜歡為自己保留一點驚喜跟好奇，然後親身體驗跟嘗試。所以當訂到 Coast，我心裡滿是期待，僅僅上網看了一下餐廳簡介，如同餐廳名稱 Coast，他們供應海岸線最新鮮且精緻的現代海鮮佳餚，看到主廚的泰國背景，我想或許會為食物增添南洋風味，我整個相當期待。
Coast designs and updates the menu every season. The menu I got that night was as above. Everything was simple and straightforward, elegant and delicate.
Tuna / Caviar
The dish was presented in an adorable shape, with a spoon of caviar, lemon and spices on top of the tuna, it can be finished in one bite. Like a small glass of cocktail, the look was colorful and exquisite. All the materials were mixed in a perfect way. The refreshing taste of the tuna with caviar awakened the senses, and the spices added more fun into the experience.
Truffle / Kanom Krok
The second dish was derived from a Thai traditional dessert “Kanom Krok” which is similar to pancake. This time the traditional Thai dessert was accompanied with truffle. Still it looked like a yummy dessert. However, eaten with the silky truffle, Kanom Krok warmed the whole taste.
第二道菜是由泰國傳統點心 Kanom Krok 演變而來，Kanom Krok 像是煎餅，加上上頭滿滿的松露，依然是一道點心的可愛模樣。入口絲滑細緻的口感，讓人整個胃都暖了起來。
Oyster / Tom Kha
Then the fresh oyster. Since I don’t eat raw seafood, I gave this to my friend. According to him, this was the most tasty oyster he had never tried. With the special sauce added on, the oyster was not only fresh, but also intriguing.
Scallop / Larb
The dishes were becoming more sophisticated since this one. The main food scallop was immersed in the Thai traditional salad “Larb”. Displayed like a watercolor painting, this was my favorite dish with both visual and flavored combination. With the mixes of Larb which combined the different veggies such as shiso and micro coriander. The sauce contained veggies, fish sauce, lime and coriander. All of the spices and tastes transformed the scallop into the most Thai style, and made the dish an enjoyment of the five senses.
從這一道開始，菜色變得較為複雜一些。這道是由泰式傳統沙拉 “Larb” 作調味跟調色的干貝。這道菜也是我這次用餐最喜歡的一道，因為除了好吃之外，它豐富視覺效果就讓我目不轉睛，在圓形的大盤中，牌子是畫框，食物就像一幅裱匡的抽象水彩畫，顏色繽紛熱情。在味覺上更是層次感十足，干貝的鮮甜沈浸在泰式沙拉的各種蔬菜跟特調醬料當中，微酸微辣的口感實在讓人驚豔。
Squid / Pomelo
The white squid looked more delectable here. With the pomelo sauce, the sweetness of the squid was mixed with the sourness of the pomelo. It felt like the squid was swimming in the ocean of tastes.
這道菜一上桌，這個剔透的白色小透抽也太可愛了！幾道菜吃下來，對於 Coast 選擇的海鮮品質已經是讚不絕口，雖然都是海鮮，但是每一道總有不同的風味。這道透抽搭上柚子醬，透抽本身的鮮甜口感加上柚子酸甜的風味，彷彿是跟著透抽悠遊在味覺的海洋中呢！
Prawn / Curry Bisque
Though I love eating prawns, this was the first time that I had prawn with curry. Unlike the curry I usually had which tasted heavy, the curry at Coast tasted light and juicy. Eaten with the fresh prawn, everything felt tropical and wild.
雖然我一直愛吃明蝦，不管是鐵板料理或是中菜，明蝦總是讓我食指大動，但是這還是我第一次吃到用咖哩做搭配的明蝦料理。不像傳統咖哩的厚重跟搶戲， Coast 的咖哩常起來較為輕盈，還有淡淡的水果風味，跟明蝦一起品嚐，整道料理充滿豐富且熱烈的熱帶風情。
Daily Catch / Coconut Beurre Blanc
I was too focused on looking at the dish to remember what kind of fish this was. However, I felt this was the only average dish that night. Since the look was nothing special, just similar with all the other fish cuisine you can see in the restaurant. And the taste was also not that special like other dishes presented before this one. So honestly, once I finished this fish, I could not wait to see what I was going to have next. Lol
Pork / Sai Oua
This was the main course. Though I am not a big fan of pork, I love this main course. The Sai Oua was like sausage but in Thai style. With the diverse spices in the Sai Oua, and the palatable curry, the Sai Oua was like the king of this meal. Carrying a heavier taste of meat and fragrant curry sauce, Sai Oua indeed had made the scene. The taste was also amazing. When the Sai Oua was bitten, the spices soon mixed with the soft pork and the aroma diffused in the mouth which gave the meal an unforgettable memory.
主菜是泰式傳統香腸 Sai Oua 搭上咖哩。雖然我平常不愛吃豬肉，但是這盤 Sai Oua 卻是深得我心。包入各式泰式香料的 Sai Oua 與香氣四溢的咖哩醬，這盤 Sai Oua 的確是晚餐中的王者。帶有濃濃咖喱與豬肉香氣，切成小塊的 Sai Oua 沾著咖哩醬放入口中，咬下第一口，香料馬上與豬肉完美混合，散發的溫熱氣息與咖哩的濃郁四溢於口中，實在是難忘的美食體驗。
Dragon Fruit Fried Rice
This dragon fruit fried rice was with the Sai Oua. Its fruity taste and beautiful color was the embellishment of the dinner.
Mango / Yogurt
The first dessert was mango with yogurt. It tasted fruity and refreshing. Though this dessert was safe, it was not bad to taste something icy after the whole meal.
Longan / Passion Fruit
It was the first time that I had dessert made with longan. This dessert was a combination of tropical fruit. The rich taste of longan cake was intriguing with the sourness of passion fruit added. The multi-layered taste was amazing.
Overall, the whole dining experience was nice, and the food was impressive. Coast successfully created the best Thai style seafood and made us immersive in the atmosphere. Since the menu will be updated seasonally, I might go there again in summer!
整題而言，Coast 打造了不錯的體驗，也成功創造了讓人驚艷的泰式海鮮料理，讓人透過料理沈浸在現代精緻的南洋風情之中。Coast 每季更新菜色，或許夏天我會再次造訪！
