On the weekend, one of my favorite pastimes is to spend the afternoon reading or writing. And I like to do it with a cup of coffee and some music. Like my previous post Weekly Playlist: The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, I would like to share with you my favorite afternoon album which is the Fleur de Paris by 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic.
This album is full of parisienne atmosphere and can make your afternoon feel like a café in Paris.
12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic
The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic (German: Die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker) are an all-cello ensemble featuring the cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic. It was founded in 1974, since then it has become the most famous and popular chamber orchestra. The Berlin Philharmonic has always been famous with their high quality of sounds and performances, so albums of this 12 Cellists are also with great expectation and satisfaction.
Fleur de Paris
It is interesting that the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic has a story with France. The first members of the 12 Cellists commissioned the French composer Jean Francaix to compose “Aubade”, and “Aubade” was especially made for the 12 Cellists. Therefore, the 12 Cellists chose a series of French pieces for this album.
There were chanson like “Sous le ponts de Paris” and “Sous le ciel de Paris”. There were also classical piano pieces like “Claire de lune” by Debussy and “Pavane pour une infante defunte” by Ravel. And there were the most famous pieces like “La vie en rose” and “Fleur de Paris”. It also adapted the “Figure Humaine” which was originally choral music for the 12 Cellists.
These French music usually gives us a free and romantic impression, while the cellos usually sound deep and steady. However, in this album, the lightness and romance in the French melodies perfectly mix with the deep profoundness of the cellos which makes the music more intriguing and diverse than the original version. It makes the audience feel like having the perfect cup of cappuccino with the dark roasted espresso under the sweet and creamy foam.
These popular and classic French pieces comprise this album of the 12 Cellists. It sounds like sitting in the Paris café under the afternoon sunshine. It also sounds like walking through Montmartre with street artists’ singing. So next time when you want to have an exotic weekend, let this Fleur de Paris make you a parisienne afternoon!
所以，若是你想要享受一個充滿異國風情的愜意午後，就讓 柏林愛樂12把大提琴 花都巴黎 為你創造一個巴黎風的浪漫時刻吧！
